Labor Day has come and gone; Rosh Hashanah is behind us; Yom Kippur may still be with us, depending on when you read this blog. This is a holy time of the year for all of us. The leaves are changing color, the plants are dropping leaves too, and there is a new crispness in the air, and the sunsets and moonrises are very different.
This is the beginning of a new season. The end of 2022 and the beginning of 2023. In barely twelve weeks from now, we will welcome a new year, and these are the holidays that I regard as most precious.
And the food becomes a huge issue for many of us. We may grit our teeth and barrel through, thinking only of what we should not have. Or we may binge and purge and indulge in all sorts of unhelpful behavior, saying “I’ll start again next year.
May I offer a third suggestion? These are the holiest days of our year. Where is your power? Where does the power you need come from, just when you need it? If we live out of connection with our “Wise Person Within”, the person we truly are and choose to be or to become, then we cannot create the lives we really want.
Look at this short period of the year. Taking care of ourselves is harder. Having patience with our family is harder. Handling all the holiday chaos is harder. And creating the life we really want, handling the food and the recovery and the family feels really, really impossible. Oh, and maybe there is also an employer who would like certain tasks done at a particular time, too.
Call back your power.
Reach for your Higher Power and other people to help.
Change what you say to yourself: You are capable and competent.
This is your life and you deserve to have it as you wish.
Handle the feelings. Buy a notebook and write what you don’t want to feel. Give it away by putting it on the page.
Ask for what you want. “I would be so (grateful? honored? happy?) if you could do this for me.”
Say “NO” when you need to “Thank you so much, but no thank you. It is a lovely idea (cake, pudding) but not today.”
Ask for help. Who has the skill to help you? Just ask.
I will be writing about the holidays all month. There is a famous rule: The Rule of the Seven P’s: Proper Prior Planning Prevents Positively Poor Performance. So, the plans and changes you can easily make in October will protect you and help you later on. And there will be an extra support group for this time, too.
When you take the steps to remove the problems and create the holiday you desire, you will feel peace. Everything in your life will get better. Your energy will return and you will be able to feel comfortable in your own power. You will have created the space to celebrate as you have always wanted to.
First step. Think carefully this week. Who are the people in your life that you can turn to for support. Who are the ones you can trust. Who believes in the real you?
I do.
Blessings to you this week.
Theresa
p.s. – Prices for individual sessions increase a little bit on December 1, 2022. There will be a new program to help you handle the holidays starting in November. Have you met our new Administrative Assistant Amanda?
