THERESA’S HAVING A RANT!

An article in my favorite nutrition magazine really aggravated me this week. Turns out there is a new energizing frozen coffee for sale.” The perfect way to cool off”.  It is made from a blend of water, light cream, liquid cane sugar (sugar, water, and potassium sorbate) and coffee swirl syrup. This is made of water, sugar, coffee, Phosphoric acid, natural flavor, dipotassium phosphate, salt, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, and xanthan gum.

I don’t want all those artificial things in my coffee!

It has 840 calories per serving! That’s more than I eat at dinner!

It has 27 teaspoons of added sugar! That’s more than two days’ worth for “normies” who can eat sugar.

It has 22 grams of saturated fat! The amount I should have in a whole day!

And their frozen chocolate drink has 37 teaspoons, about ¾ cup added sugar! 930 calories!

I’m sorry for complaining – I know the rest of the world has the right to eat whatever they want …. But really? Is this in our best interests as a nation?

And did you ever notice why chips and soda take up so much space in the grocery store? The manufacturer pays the grocery to put their products in the prime position. That’s why the food I want to buy is either all the way on the top shelf, or along the sides of the displays, or tucked away in some corner.

And do you know what “endcaps” are? They are the space at the end of the aisle. You will pass them several times as you go through the store. Nutrient rich foods are not placed there. Again, it costs money to have that spot.

And newer smaller healthier companies who make nutrient rich foods are not able to display them correctly because it costs too much. And they cannot get their products even into a lot of the stores.

Daddy always told me, “If you want to know a person’s real intention, look at the path of the little green dollars”. He was right.
